I have a similiar issue with my FOB and rip-cord set up.  I find my FOB hitting the two set screws that hold down the fork.  tried using thinner padding material, no help.  The clearance test with the 1" tester clears everyting just fine.  My blazer vanes dont have any issues with contact, and I my rip-cord drop is setup correctly per the instructions.  Any help is appreciated.

I am trying to setup my first ripcord rest and am curious about the angle the fork makes.  WHen I look at Pauls initial post, it looks like when the rest is setup on the bow level, that the fork also is level.  On mine, the fork is at a downward angle.  So I dont know if I should leave it, or angle the rest itself to make the fork level in the down position.

also, if I raise the rest so it doesnt hit off the riser shelf, then i end up with the arrow being above the berger hole.  is that ok or should i let it slap off the shelf?  I put one piece of moleskin on there but i dont think that will silence it.  and i dont know how bad it is for it to keep slapping the shelf as far as durability of the fork.

here's how i have it now, but i would need to move it down to line up the arrow and berger hole.

if i need to make the fork level, i would have to really angle the rest.

I noticed that the rest bracket is angled make it level again, then adjust the forks by loosening the vertical adjustment bolt, drop the forks down till they touch the risor shelf, they should be touching. Now tighten everything back up, put a peice of moleskin under the forks to pad the hit. be sure your rest will drop at the right time and check for clearence with the clear FOB gauge, if everthing id good shoot it and see if you get contact. The rest hitting the risor will not damage it and will not make any noticable noise when shot you will hear it if you just drop it. Try this and it will work. KP

I am having some contact issuses with my ripcord rest, particularly on the right prong. I didnt notice this until I started doing a lot of shooting and noticed that the moleskin is starting to fray off (see pic). I am not sure how to remedy this situation, so I also attached a picture of the ammount of string that I have tied into the cable. This set up was done by a local proshop, so it is braided in and not using the football clip. I have also been consistantly hitting 4 inches to the right and I am not sure if this is because of the contact or if that is another problem all together. Any help with either problem would be appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Bill

I noticed a few things.

The Ripcord should have the cord attached to the down cable at a 45 degree angle.  It looks like yours is tied lower than recommended my the manufacture.

I however do not think you need to move the cord.  Please review my Ripcord set up and see if the rest is set to drop similar to my write up.

With Hoyt bows, my first recommendation is to double check the timing on the bow.

Let me know how it looks and then lets go from there.

Your RipCord is set with the lower fork mounts....How much clearance do you have using the clearance tester?  I would like you to have about 3/16 or more.

I checked the clearance and it is more than enough. I drew back and had my wife take a picture of each cam and from what it looks to me one is under rotated. I am not sure if I am correct about this and am not sure how to correct it if that is the problem. I will attach the pictures and any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much

hey guys im new to the nation and i was already lookin for help... go figure eh?

i just purchased a brand new high country speed force 76lb 29in draw length and have it set up with a string loop and a t.r. micro matrix and meta peep.  my ripcord is on its way thru the mail as are my arrows - fmjs 340.  i was wonderin if anyone has any experience with the trinary cam system the speed force has and the effect clamping the football to the downward cable system has on timing.  i also believe that people have been saying on here that your loop and nock point should be set up so the arrow sits level when the rest is in the up position, is this true?  i will be setting this bow up by myself and have no bow press and no dealer within an hour and a 1/2, so any help would be awesome.  oh yeah, my fobs are on the way too!

thanks guys.

www.bowtuningtips.com There is a ripcord installation on the rest tips page. The first thing you want it the Ripcord to lay flat on the shelf when down be sure to follow the instructions to the "T" and you should be OK!!

Go Up Go Down

I just signed on to FOB-Nation and haven't read all the threads yet, but I think my problem warrants airing.

I too am having BIG trouble with FOB contact with the RipCord.  I had a Bowtech technician install my RipCord last Monday on my Tribute.  He installed an identical rest on my buddy's General at the same time. I didn't get a chance to shoot it till Saturday ... and my buddy shot at my place as well.  I should point out that he had no problems throughout the day, but that he does shoot Blazers.

My problem:  When arming the rest in the up position manually, the rest would not fall away.  It began after shooting 20 or 30 rounds and randomly, it could not be duplicated enough to diagnose the problem at the time?

I took to shooting at 5yds with the FOB off the arrow to see how often the rest would fall.  Most of the time it would not fall away at all while arming it manually.  Only when drawing the bow string to raise the rest to the armed position would it function as it should.  If I pulled too strong I could hear the rest internals lock in the up position.  On release ..... guess what, I exploded another FOB.  One FOB actually tried to exit through my sight barrel?!!!!!  Guess what ... I had bent pins and fiber optics pointing everywhere?!!!!!

I shot some WD-40 into the arm/housing thinking it might free up something internal.  It might have had some effect, however I shot the rest of the day by drawing the bow string to raise the rest, GENTLY.  When I couldn't hear well or was distracted and the rest armed itself, guess what ....... !@#$%^&*

I digress.  I'm inclined to think it is a mechanical problem and I'm considering sending it to the manufacturer ..... unless you guys can convince me otherwise.

Thank you in advance,

Buck

Hey Buck where on the cable does the cord attatch? Is it above or below the shelf? The Bowtechs have a lot of cable travel and the cord may have to be tied above the shelf or even with it. If it is already this way you may need to send it back to Ripcord call them for a return# at 406-683-0100. If you would post a pic for me to see the rest and how it looks set up. and one with it down.

I have the bow with me at work today as I was going to take it to the mechanic after work.  I will try to get a pic posted before lunch.  I believe the cord is served in at a slight angle below the shelf but will confirm it and post a pic.

Thanks for the help!

Go Up Go Down

Hi all,
I just started bow hunting this year and was fortunate enough to take my first three deer (all does) with the bow around Christmas. As I've gotten a little more into it, I've made a few changes. I'm now shooting a used Bowtech Extreme VFT that pulls 58lbs at a 28" draw (older, I know, but it shoots well) with a Spott Hogg Real Deal sight, Carbon Express Maxima 3D Select 350's, and a Ripcord Code Red rest. I recently ordered some FOBs to try. Excited, I tried them as soon as they arrived and smashed the first one I shot against my launcher arm. Perplexed, I did everything I could to fix it, but to no avail. I was still getting contact near the back of the rest. I followed the posted directions as closely as I possibly could, but was still getting contact in the same place. So next chance I got, I took my bow to the shop. I had a D-loop put in and we then paper tuned the bow (with blazers). It shot bullet holes. So today I went out back and tried a couple more FOBs. First two shots hit a little low, but I figured I just needed to resight it in after having the work done. No problem. After a pin adjustment my third shot hit lower, with the FOB/nock flying about 20 yards past the target. I could see where the FOB had hit the red rubber part on the back of the launcher arm, cutting it slightly. There was also red rubber residue on the FOB's (mine are white) ring wing. I decided to try one more just to make sure (stupid, I know). The FOB ripped the mole-skin like red material off the top of the launcher arm but the FOB stayed on the arrow this time, just as with the first two shots. I am at a loss for what to do...I figure that the FOB is smaller than my blazers, so I'm probably getting contact with those too though I haven't checked because flight has always been accurate out to about 65 yds. There's always been a little tail wobbling, but it is accurate. I've checked and rechecked the clearance with the clear tester, and I seem to have about 1/4" clearance over the top of the rest and more than that everywhere else. I have no string contact with the FOB at full draw. My rest comes to the full up position at the very end of the draw (I haven't measured it, but I would guess the last 1-2"). The rest string is served in further below the suggested 45 degree position because when I tested it at 45 degrees using the football, the rest would come up more like 5" from full draw. If anybody's got any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I really REALLY want to be able to shoot FOBs for the practicality, consistency between arrows, blood trail marking, and not having to refletch or worry about damaging my fletchings. I'm in S FL doing research on Osceola turkeys and have very limited internet access or time to use it for that matter so I may not be able to return messages very quickly. Also, I'll try to get some pictures of my setup on here sometime soon. Thanks for any and all help. --Johnny

And to add to my last post, yes, my rest does lay level and flat against the riser, and no, I do not use the rubber arrow guide.

First and formost, Welcome to the Nation, and congrats on your first order of FOBS. Below is a link to BTT's site for a set up video for the rip cord rest. Should answer all your questions. If you need anything more ask away!

Im not sure i would need to see a picture, but are you sure your arrow is sitting level on the string....If you have 1/4" clearance between the bottom of the FOB and the top of the rest then that may just be your problem, also is the launcher arm sitting level on your shelf?

And Congrads on getting three does in your first season (its really not that easy)
And a Bump to metalmans suggestion of checking Btts set up vid, be patient and follow his instructions to a T, I also suggest getting the levels he uses in his videos (he now sells a kit with all the tools he uses for set up) its a great deal! Be patient lots of us busted a couple fobs out of the gates (Myself included) only to find out that there was one little detail we overlooked in set up. Setting a bow up to shoot Blazers is not the same set up you'll shoot with fobs. its only a slight difference but it is important.
