Go Up Go Down

Some folks have had issues with this rest and FOBs so I had to see for myself how FOB friendly this rest was.

I just followed the instructions. With the exception of a few additional tips I got from Kevin at QAD.

There are three critical things to look at is.

1. Using the TL1 fork is a must. It provides about an extra 1/8 of drop.

2. The pull cord should be tied just about level with the bottom of the handle/grip when the bow is not drawn back

3. Make sure the rest is coming to the FULL UP (90 degree hard stop) about 1 1/2 inches from full draw.

It took my all of about 20 minutes to set the rest up. I verified the timing by assuring the rest was at the hard stop (90 degree) at full draw. Then I SLOWLY let the bow down to make sure the forks did not move until I let down about 1 1/2 to 2 inches.

Tying the pull cord about level with the bottom is important for a quick drop.

Having the forks come to the full up 90 degree hard stop 1 1/2 to 2 inches before full draw is VERY important to make sure there is enough momentum to drive the fork down. The QAD has the feature of staying up if you slowly let down. If you have the rest timed to quick, if you get any creep, the rest may want to stay up. Bad thing with FOBs! Or a fletch for that matter.

If you use the rubber peel and stick arrow guide that mounts on the riser shelf, it may need to be trimmed down a bit for clearance. Those arrow guides/holder give us the most troubles!

Thank you Kevin for the tuning tips

I have shot the bow about 50 times and love it! The QAD is very FOB friendly.

On a side note....As you can see from the photo, there is plenty of clearance under the rest as well as over the FOB and the containment bar.

Quick note for you Bowtech shooters. I just put my HD on my new Airborne. It doesn't work, the top containment bar hits the short stop bar and won't go any higher, leaving no room for the rest to drop all the way, its hits the back edge of the shelf, remaining 1/4 of the way still up. its the same on the 101.
Anyone have a fix for this, its also this way on the LD, had to use the hunter.
Also had to use two smaller bolts with smaller heads to attach the rest to the riser, the little screw that locks it in place so it can't move has no meat to bite into, riser design.
This sucks, i love this rest, dont' like the adjustments on the hunter.
flawless set up though, fob friendly thats for sure, setup in minutes, tons of clearance.

As usual Patrick at QAD was great to deal with. The spacer is needed on the HD and LD which moves the rest far enough left and out of the way of the short stop bar. I haven't put it on yet, parts are at the shop but spoke with others who says it works just fine.
Thanks again to QAD, the best full capture arrow rest out there in my opinion. I know a few fob shooters using the QAD not one with setup issues.

Paul did you just use the hunter series for this tutorial? You said it's a must to use the TL1 Fork , so this rest comes with more than one fork so you have options?

Fulldraw,
I have QAD hunter and it does come with 2 forks, The fork that is on the rest is not the TL1 fork. Make sure when the rest falls it is parallel to the arrow shelf.

Paul have you tried the QAD Pro LD yet? I've got one coming to me and I'm gonna throw it on the Elite Synergy that I just traded for.

I got to change my prongs.  My QAD has the shorter one installed.  I should be able to just move my nock point up to the height difference between the two QAD prongs, right?

Its about 1/8" difference.

Kevin

If you have enough room under the forks (between the forks and the riser shelf), you may be able to lower the whole rest by 1/8" so you would not have to adjust your nock set.

just bought the QAD hunter and had it installed by the shop tech got home and started reading here that I need a diffrent launcher arm for the fobs that should have been included I think that they may have kept my extra bits as all I got with the empty packaging was the setup DVD (the felt was missing too)

Just curious, what is the difference from the QAD and the Ripcord?  I enjoy my Ripcord and had to change nothing.  It works flawlessly.  I know we all shoot what is comfortable for us or popular at the shop we purchase from, but was just wondering.

The Ripcord is simple and I have had almost zero problems with this rest.  The QAD has a lock up-let down feature that can cause the rest to stick up when shot if not set up just right.  The QAD also has Two launcher types and a lock down brake while the Ripcord uses one launcher that work just fine without a brake.

I will just sum my thoughts up by saying....Simple is always best.
